Scale production of climate-resilient prefabricated housing systems in the Prairies

Carbon Capture & Utilization (CCU) - For Alternative Cement Production$1.1Mvalue2025start2026end

Demand for building solutions that meet the resiliency challenges of a changing climate that produce regularly occurring extreme weather events is accelerating.  These events are driving demand for cement-based building envelopes and materials that are difficult to compete with in terms of resiliency, but at odds with Climate goals for decarbonization. Without a North American source of a low carbon footprint cement, to replace the reliance on traditional cement or Asian originating alternative cement products, generating meaningful reductions in GHG emissions will be unachievable.  Furthermor

Design of the commercial direct air contactor$65.2Kvalue2023start2023end

ZS2 Technologies is developing a solid sorbent CO2 capture to storage technology that it recently demonstrated (1 kgCO2/d captured) for competing in the X-prize. ZS2 was acknowledged as a top 60 Milestone finalist out of over 1100 companies in April of 2022 and is looking to develop the next scale of this solution (35 kgCO2/d). The CO2 is converted in mineralized carbonates that are used in the production of cement.

Magnesium carbonated cements as CO2 sequestered pre-cast product$50.0Kvalue2021start2022end

ZS2 has engaged a large mining company to jointly develop a carbon capture system that carbonizes ZS2’s precast products with the emissions generated in the production of cement related products. ZS2’s project is to identify and prove the feasibility of bench scale carbon capture through MgO formulations that utilize waste streams and can make a meaningful impact in the CO2 footprint of MgO production.
