This project builds dual-use maritime sensor and data infrastructure supporting Canadian sovereignty and defence readiness, applicable to commercial shipping and ports. It expands data capture — automatic identification system (AIS), radar, vessel dynamics, environmental observations — with reliable ingestion, validation and access at scale across Canadian waters including the Arctic. The platform enables secure access, monitoring and shared visibility enriched with environmental context and early-warning indicators: signal degradation, dark/ghost vessels and anomalous behaviour. The result is
OceanSync specializes in generating data needed by nearshore and offshore vessels to optimize operations. This project aims to improve product reliability, the accuracy of environmental data, and end-user decision support methods.
OceanSync is embarking on a project to integrate Automatic Identification System (AIS) technology into its shipborne data collection system. The project includes developing a prototype Dual AIS receiver, conducting field testing for technical feasibility, data fusion with existing sensor data, and market assessment for commercial viability. By leveraging AIS data from nearby vessels, OceanSync aims to enhance maritime safety, improve weather data analysis, and explore market opportunities across various sectors including defense, logistics, and shipping.
Deployment of Automated Weather Station Devices
This project will develop a structured qualification and innovation plan to apply AI models across key maritime use cases, including vessel safety, operational forecasting, and data product development. By exploring deep learning and generative AI approaches, OceanSync aims to enhance its internal capabilities, improve responsiveness to complex environmental conditions, and accelerate the development of intelligent tools that support safer, more efficient maritime operations. The initiative will lay the foundation for future AI-driven modules within the Firm's platform.
This project will prepare OceanSync to enter the defence market with dual-use maritime domain awareness technology. The firm will assess the defence market opportunity for maritime surveillance data services, build knowledge of defence procurement processes including security clearances and controlled goods requirements, and conduct a technical gap analysis to align its commercial platform with Canadian Armed Forces needs. Activities include stakeholder engagement with defence end-users and procurement authorities, engagement of Canadian defence procurement advisors, and attendance at defence

OceanSync has developed a prototype solution for its hardware product and performed extensive testing during sea trials. The working prototype is currently on its second iteration. The company is now moving into a phase of pilot projects with various customers. For these projects the current hardware needs to be updated to accommodate improved connectivity as well as integration of new sensors. And lastly updates to the proprietary gateway need to be implemented to make it more integrated, robust and scalable.
OceanSync offers its customers insights into weather conditions from their vessels both in real time during voyages as well as post-voyage. This project aims to largely automate the voyage report creation and delivery processes as well as the creation and expansion of the real-time dashboards. These two products provide fleets around the world with valuable insights from the data.
OceanSync is developing a parametric roll alert system as part of its commercialization strategy. Zeel will support this by developing a react based front end interface, including live vessel data integration, user driven condition inputs, and polar risk plotting. The internship builds on Zeel's software background and contributes to OceanSync’s technical growth and product readiness.
The project aims on upgrading our back-end infrastructure to better manage and analyse IoT data. This project will enable us to refine data processing and storage capabilities, ensuring efficient handling of the growing data streams. The project will include work in Product Ownership and Front-end development. The Youth’s role will be important in integrating and optimising IoT data within our robust systems.
